Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

Continuing professional development (CPD) helps professionals stay current in their fields.

Rapid changes in the past decade demand that professionals quickly adapt to market shifts, client needs, and government policies. Embracing change and innovation is essential. Staying up-to-date is now crucial for professional and organisational success, making CPD vital.

Members must complete at least 20 CPD hours annually, including 13 verifiable hours, as required by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA)

Regularly reviewing your knowledge and achievements allows you to steer your career in the direction you want.

CPD offers undeniable benefits, not just through the skills gained but also through the planning process, which allows you to assess your current career situation and identify the skills needed to reach your potential.

CGISA offers seminars and a conference throughout the year, keeping you informed on the latest topics. Members enjoy discounted rates for these events.

Remember to record your CPD hours in the online logbook regularly. At the end of the year, you’ll need to complete an annual declaration, for which the logbook will serve as evidence.

To support CPD, comprehensive study guides have been developed for the following four Board subjects, adapted by world authorities for the Southern African context:

  • Corporate Governance
  • Corporate Secretaryship
  • Corporate Administration
  • Corporate Financial Management

Each guide averages 400 pages and contains the most current information and developments, updated annually. Members who did not complete the Board subjects and wish to update their knowledge can count the study material as non-verifiable CPD hours, or as verifiable hours if they register for the course.

Non-members can access this material by subscribing to the Technical Support Package (TSP). For more information, click here.
